My IP
Location data from DB-IP (CC BY 4.0), updated monthly. The marker shows the approximate city of the network, not your exact location.
From the command line: curl ip.xmmtools.com returns just your IP, curl ip.xmmtools.com/json returns the full details.
Approximate location

FAQ
Why is the IP shown here different from the one in my computer’s network settings?
What you see in network settings is usually a local network address such as 192.168.x.x or 10.x.x.x, which only works inside your home or office. What is shown here is your public IP, the outgoing address websites see. Your router and ISP combine the traffic of many devices under one public IP, so a phone and a computer on the same Wi-Fi usually show the same address.
Why is the location wrong, or showing a different city?
IP locations are registered per address block. What you get is the city of the ISP’s facility or where the network is registered, not a GPS fix, and being off by dozens of kilometers is common. Mobile networks sometimes show the provincial capital or another city. The circle on the map only shows a rough area. With a VPN or proxy on, the location shown is that of the proxy server.
Why does IPv6 show “Detection not supported yet”
This site’s server currently only has an IPv4 address, so your browser can only connect over IPv4 and your IPv6 address can’t be seen here. That doesn’t mean your network has no IPv6. Looking up other IPv6 addresses works as usual: just enter them in the box above.
Which IP is shown when I use a VPN or proxy?
It shows the outgoing address websites actually see. When a VPN or proxy is working, this should be the proxy server’s IP and country. If it still shows your local ISP, this browser’s traffic is not going through the proxy, so you can use this page to check whether your VPN is working.
What is the AS number next to the ISP?
The AS number is an autonomous system number. Each ISP, cloud provider and large company network has its own, for example Google is AS15169. The ISP name comes from registration data in the IP database, often the English company registration name, and it may show a parent company or wholesaler rather than the brand name you saw when you signed up for broadband.
Can I look up someone else’s IP, and can it show a street address?
Yes, you can enter any IPv4 or IPv6 address in the box above to look up its location, but you only get the ISP and the approximate city. A street address can’t be found, and neither can who is using it. Private addresses such as 10.x.x.x and 192.168.x.x and local addresses such as 127.0.0.1 have no location, and the address type is shown instead. Querying too often (more than 2 times per second) shows a message to try again later.
Why are city and province names in English?
The IP database only provides city and state or province names in English, while country names are shown in the page language. You can copy the English place names straight into a map app to search.
Are lookups logged, and where does the data come from?
Lookups are done by the DB-IP Lite database on this site’s own server, with no third-party API calls. The lookup endpoint itself writes no logs and stores no results, and map images are also relayed through this site’s server. As with any website, the server’s access log contains the IP the request came from. The IP database is updated once a month, and the page shows the date of the current data.
